Gladys Hamby Riddle was the eldest daughter of Zach and Sophronia Autrey Hamby. She died from complications from surgery after a calf knocked her down and she broke her hip.

Below is an early photo of Marcus and Vestie Wilson Riddle’s home in Pensacola and what it looks like today. Born in 1856, Vestie J Wilson was Big Tom and Niagara Wilson’s third daughter. Construction of the house began in 1893 and was completed in 1894. In a May 1984 interview with Roy Hensley, Pearson Riddle, Sr. said, “my daddy furnished all the wood and a lot of the materials to build this house…a man came over from Madison county and built it for $140. Can you imagine what it would cost to build today?”
